The title of this blog is the mantra of one of my clients. He started saying this over 20 years ago when got out of law school and started his own practice, and he is still reciting it today. Getting new clients to your business is one for the hardest things to do. I feel this is especially hard for attorneys and law firms. Imagine if you had a business and you could not advertise. No yellow pages. No TV. Nothing! How long could you last? Would you even try? Back in 1977 the Supreme Court made it legal for attorneys to advertise and ever since the legal profession has been trying everything to try to get new clients. The internet, unlike yellow pages, TV, or radio gives you the ability to control whom sees/hears your ad. If I have a yellow pages, or if I have my TV or radio to the right channel/station I can see or hear about your business, and thus contact you. What the internet allows you to do is control who sees you. Let's say for instance you are a criminal attorney, and that you would like more white collar crime cases. With your website you can attract this type of potential client by filling your site with relevant content to these type of cases. So if some one typed into Google, "securities fraud attorney Denver", your site would come up. By using relevant content, and keywords you can really control who comes to your site because you can control the types of searches your site will come up for. You can also control who sees your website by doing focused pay per click ads, and by purchasing specific space on legal internet directories. (you can usually by specific geographic locations and practice areas) In the hospitality industry the mantra is location, location, location. The same goes for internet advertising, put yourself if front of the right person at the right time and great things can happen. sincerely, |
