Who do you think would win a fight between a grizzly bear and a pitbull? Is this the question that potential clients ask themselves before they contact an attorney? I hope not. So why are they still so widely used? Was there some class in law school that discussed the power of the carnivore in advertising? For all to long I think that a majority of lawyers believed that when it comes to marketing he/she that yells the loudest wins. This just isn't the case any more. Until the internet came along the yellow pages where the marketing source for attorneys to the public. If a half page ad in black and white worked then a full page color would do better, right? The internet has helped not only level the playing field between big firms and small firms, very experienced attorneys and new attorneys that just passed the bar, but is has given the public a place to educate themselves. I live and work in Denver. And over the last 5 years I have noticed a dramatic change in the philosophy of firms when it comes to their advertising. Sure there are still the bears and bulldogs, but the change is definitely happening. Firm's are slowly but surely realizing they need to give more via their website. Potential client's need to know more than how many big verdicts you have won. They want to know how have you helped people like me? Free downloads, blogs, chat rooms, e-newsletters, and seminars are just some of the ways attorneys can strengthen their brand and their relationships with new and old clients. How can you set yourself apart? How can you make it easier to do business with you? What is the coolest thing about your website? Click your heels three times, stuff that grizzly and make your marketing something your clients will tell their family and friends about.
